mjs Services North West Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to pay money up front?
No, we will invoice you / insurance company on completion of the work.
I have only managed to get one quote and my insurance company asked for 2 or 3. What should I do?
Send the quote that you already have to your insurers letting them know that you're having difficulty in obtaining more. They may choose to send some someone else out to provide another estimate.
My insurance company have sent a builder to carry out the work, do I have to use them?
It is your decision who works in your home, however the builder that you appoint will be expected to carry out the work at a cost no higher than that estimated by the firm your insurance company have chosen.
My insurance comp nay have appointed a Loss Adjustor to deal with my claim, why is this?
Sometimes, if the work is expected to be complicated or if your claim exceeds a certain amount, a Loss Adjustor will be appointed to liaise between you and your insurers. This would usually happen in cases where there is a lot of damage, for example a fire or flood.
What's the difference between a Loss Adjustor and a Loss Assessor?
A Loss Adjustor is an impartial judge appointed by your insurance company. A Loss Assessor is someone that you would appoint to work on your behalf. The Loss Adjustor is paid by your insurer at no extra cost to you. A Loss Assessor will charge you for their service - this is usually a % of your total claim.
Do I need a Loss Assessor?
The majority of domestic claims DO NOT need a Loss Assessor. Most reputable building forms routinely provide the same service as a Loss Assessor at no extra cost.
I've heard horror stories of builders where they've not turned up for weeks on end starting a job. Will the work take a long time?
No, because we do not receive any payment until all work is carried out to your satisfaction. It would be not in the interest of any party to delay completion of work.
I have never made a claim on my insurance before. I am confused by the forms and I don't know what is expected of me. What should I do?
